Senior Tribal and Rural Clean Energy Expert

Reston, VA (hybrid) or remote

ICF is seeking a renewable energy and energy efficiency technical expert who can provide technical assistance to local communities and Native American Tribes to implement energy efficiency conservation measures and sustainable renewable energy systems (e.g., community scale solar, wind, geothermal, etc.). This position will be based in our Reston, VA headquarters office in a hybrid work environment, or can be remotely based for exceptional candidates. Successful candidates will support the implementation of U.S. government technical assistance programs to drive energy efficiency and emissions reductions across the country.

What you will be doing

  • Providing technical assistance to local communities and Native American Tribes, to assist in the implementation of renewable energy systems and energy conservation measures.

  • Conducting independent engineering technical reviews of energy projects

  • Conducting energy savings and economic analyses community energy projects

  • Assisting in developing and designing innovative energy programs

  • Conducting market research and analysis of energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, and decarbonization technologies, programs, and policies

  • Conducting remote desktop building system audits and assessments

  • Co-authoring reports and other client deliverables, white papers, and marketing pieces

  • Managing and supporting technical studies that evaluate energy impacts and benefits

  • Preparing, reviewing, updating, and presenting technical reports

  • Developing, updating, and maintaining plans, standard operating procedures, and other project documentation.

What you need to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Environmental Engineering) or a related discipline (e.g., economics, political science, management)

  • 8+ years of relevant experience

  • On-the-ground experience working with Tribes to implement renewable energy systems and/or energy conservation measures

  • On-the-ground working with rural communities to implement renewable energy systems and/or energy conservation measures

  • Knowledge of evaluation, measurement, and verification of energy efficiency

  • Understanding of building science and building energy savings calculations

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and self-motivation

  • Proficient computer skills (e.g., the suite of Microsoft applications)

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task, and work under strict deadlines

  • Knowledge of distributed onsite energy resources (e.g., renewables, energy storage)

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Master’s degree in a related discipline

  • Related professional credentials (e.g., PE, CEM, LEED).

  • Experience with project management, business development, and/or client development

  • Experience with Energy Management Systems (e.g., ISO 50001)

  • Experience with state & local and/or federal commercial and industrial energy programs

  • Experience with commercial energy-efficient applications

  • Experience with energy modeling tools and platforms (e.g., OpenStudio, EnergyPlus)

  • Experience with advanced programming and data analytics skills

  • Substantial professional and/or lived experience with Tribal communities

  • Knowledge of energy and climate policy and regulation

  • Knowledge of building design and construction methods, building codes and standards, mechanical systems, and related energy use in construction. Ability to read and interpret construction documents.

  • Knowledge of sustainable building practices and technologies

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$79,643.00 - $135,392.00
