Overview:

Bechtel has played a pivotal role in clean energy for more than seven decades. Today, the foundation of our clean energy strategy is developing and building core renewables projects (solar PV, wind, and battery storage), in addition to continuing our work in nuclear, hydro and newer technologies (e.g. hydrogen, carbon capture). To drive this strategy and help Bechtel become a global leader in renewables, Bechtel Enterprises’ is increasing project development activity in utility-scale solar, onshore wind, and battery storage.

Job Summary:

Joining the Bechtel Renewable & Clean Power to support Bechtel Enterprises Clean Energy Development Team as a Senior Development Engineering Manager is an opportunity to be an important member of fast-growing team that is leading a strategic and high growth business. We are looking for a talented and energetic individual to support utility-scale solar, onshore wind, and storage project development across the US. #LI-VB1

The position will be responsible for all technical aspects to support Bechtel’s development of solar, wind, and battery storage projects. This includes identification of potential project sites, conducting preliminary design and production forecasting, managing certain technical consultants, interfacing with EPC, supporting acquisition due diligence, and being the outward-facing technical face of projects with key external stakeholders (i.e. landowners, state/local officials, offtakers).

The position will work closely with our EPC, internal development, power marketing/origination, financing, and legal teams. #LI-VB1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Site Selection and Technical Feasibility: attend site visits and provide recommendations to the project development team on the technical feasibility and constructability for individual sites for new development projects

  • Preliminary Layouts, Energy Yield Assessments, and LCOE optimization: create preliminary layouts along with accompanying production forecasts (i.e. PVSyst for solar); optimize system configuration based on lowest LCOE

  • Financial Model Inputs: develop and/or coordinate all technical inputs for project financial models, including estimates of: energy production, EPC capital costs (including prior to receiving Class 5 or 4 estimates), and operating & maintenance expenses.

  • Management of Consultants: manage various technical consultants, including environmental/permitting consultants, transmission consultants, and engineering consultants (e.g., geotechnical, survey, etc.).

  • Acquisition Due Diligence: provide technical support for all potential project acquisitions (or co-development opportunities), including development of information requests, review of data, development of model inputs, and management of technical consultants.

  • Project Finance: contract and manage the Independent Engineer (IE) due diligence process in support of financial close, review IE report, coordinate with IE-Lender, and ensure delivery of IE report.

  • Interface with Key External Stakeholders: lead technical and engineering-related discussions, presentations, and Q&A with key external stakeholders such as landowners, state/local officials, and potential offtakers.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree in Engineering (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience​

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 10+ years of infrastructure design and engineering experience

  • 10+ years of renewable energy design and engineering experience (solar and wind preferred)

  • 5+ years of engineering experience within a developer, IPP, or similar entity (solar and/or wind preferred)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organization and time management skills

  • Willingness to travel

  • Proficiency using MS Excel, ArcGIS, PVSyst, pvDesign, and PVCase is preferred
