Our Regulatory, Policy & Economics (RPE) portfolio has over 30 years of experience supporting the design, implementation, and improvement of Federal programs and is seeking a Regulatory Specialist and Technical Editor to join them.

Join our multidisciplinary team of regulatory specialists, policy analysts, economists, and attorneys who combine policy, legal, economic, and scientific research and analysis to solve unique public policy challenges through innovative, accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services. Our dynamic work environment involves working on multiple projects simultaneously and providing a wide range of support services for a variety of Federal clients.

This full-time position is available immediately and can be filled either as a fully remote position or as a position primarily located in Reston, VA (i.e., in the DC metro area) with flexibility for telework considered.

Job Responsibilities:

The Regulatory Specialist will employ strong research, policy analysis, and writing skills to contribute to Federal rulemaking documents, stakeholder and public comment reports, policy papers, and technical background documents. Duties also will include technical writing and editing, as well as report production. The Regulatory Specialist will work within interdisciplinary teams supporting Federal government client agencies that develop and implement regulatory programs affecting the environment, homeland security and immigration, transportation, labor and workforce issues, public health, nutrition, and other national priorities.

What you will do:

  • Participate in short- and long-term engagements to support Federal clients whose responsibilities are to develop policies and craft regulations that implement a desired policy, explain the rationale of the rulemaking to interested parties, and implement the regulatory requirements

  • Draft, edit, and format Federal agency rulemaking documents and develop/adapt style guides for new agency rulemakings (20%)

  • Support Federal agency rulemaking workgroups by providing live document editing in meetings, tracking agency dispensation of reviewer comments, and other support, as needed (20%)

  • Support Federal agency efforts to transparently manage and analyze public comments received on proposed agency rules (30%)

  • Support Federal rulemaking-adjacent processes, such as public meetings, Paperwork Reduction Act information collection request approvals, and regulatory cost-benefit analyses (20%)

  • Conduct research and synthesize information from rulemaking documents, literature, and other reports (10%)

  • Immerse oneself rapidly in varied projects for multiple clients

  • Provide verbal and written progress updates to project staff

  • Interact with clients to understand and manage expectations and foster long-term relationships

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (in Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field) plus at least 3 years of relevant work experience in a professional services firm or related environment; OR a Master’s degree (in Public Policy or a related field) or equivalent (e.g., JD), plus up to 1 year of relevant work experience.

  • U.S. Citizenship is required per Federal contracts

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a moderate-level government security clearance from select government agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Analytical, writing, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills

  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communications skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Technical editing or proofreading experience

  • Understanding of and experience with the Federal rulemaking process

  • Regulatory research skills

  • Experience interacting with clients or organizational leadership

  • Experience engaging with highly technical subject matter

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$60,663.00 - $103,128.00
