Where the chemistry happens…

We are seeking a talented professional like you to serve as Research Scientist II in the Global Insecticide Research Group (APR/IE) at BASF's research facility in Research Triangle Park, NC. In this role, you will join an interdisciplinary team focused on the discovery of novel, selective and safe insecticides. Specifically, you will be a member of the Insect and Plant Propagation Team, focusing on the continuous production of high-quality, consistent animals and plants that enable us to drive our research pipeline forward.

As a Insectary Research Scientist II, You Create Chemistry By...

  • Being directly responsible for mass-rearing a variety of insect species on plants and/or artificial diet, while collecting, analyzing, and reporting detailed data on insect and plant quality, to ensure our scientists receive consistent, high-quality plants and animals.

  • Overseeing the quality control program for our twenty-plus insect species and coordinate environmental monitoring within our state-of-the-art facility.

  • Leveraging your self-starter attitude, and your excellent communication skills, you will help to organize efforts across our team through various activities including reviewing materials, such as standard operating procedures created and submitted by other team members, facilitating the team duty schedule, and working directly with the team leader to coordinate workflows across our multiple work streams. Likewise, you will coordinate the contingent workforce which supports the Insect and Plant Propagation team.

  • Dedicating to advancing our insect mass-rearing program while maintaining the highest level of laboratory safety for self and colleagues. This is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your experience mass-producing insects and/or plants from previous roles.

  • This role requires that you are willing and able to handle live insects, and safely lift 50 lbs.

If you...

  • Possess a BS and/or MS in Biology, Entomology, Crop Protection, or other relevant disciplines.

  • 5 or more years of related experience with a bachelor's degree or 3 or more years of related experience with a master's degree.

  • Experience could be in one or more of the following areas: mass-producing insects and/or plants, coordinating the efforts of a small team, and supporting multifaceted customer needs in a dynamic project environment will be crucial for success.

  • Have strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
