SUMMARY:

The Arts and Culture Division of the City Managers Office has an exciting opportunity for a temporary, non-benefited, part-timePublic Art Technician!The ideal candidate will have a passion for arts, culture, and community initiatives.

This is a temporary, non-benefited, part-time position up to 17.5 hours per week (not to exceed 233 hours per quarter and 1039 hours in the FY). There are no benefits offered with this position.

MINIMUM/PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Customer service principles.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (word processing, database, spreadsheet, and PowerPoint), Microsoft Teams, and graphics such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign
  • Basic principles, practices, and operations of providing arts and culture assistance.
  • Work organization and office management principles and practices.
  • Methods and techniques of effective technical, administrative, report preparation, and presentation.
  • Terminology used in the area of assignment.
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and various software packages.
  • Methods and techniques used in communication and public art.
  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Basic filing, and confidential recordkeeping principles.

Ability to:

  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Learn basic principles of a public art.
  • Learn to prepare a variety of basic reports and agendas.
  • Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Operate and use modern office equipment including a computer and various software packages.
  • Work in a team-based environment to achieve common goals.
  • Meet the physical requirements to safely and effectively perform the assigned duties.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Work Experience: Two (2) years of experience in art handling and/or paid office or program support.

Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level coursework in art, art history, art conservation, and/or gallery practices

Supplemental Information

Environment:Work is performed in a standard indoor and outdoor environment. May be required to work on evenings or weekends.

Physical:Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; lift objects up to 50 pounds; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

Cleanand maintain the public art collection, including hanging and movingartwork, removing graffiti, applying graffiti coatings, and preparing signal boxes.

Assist in the formulationof procedures, standards, and planning for Citycollection.

Assistwith all aspects of City gallery exhibitions (calendaring, wall labels, install/deinstall, artist contracts, coordinating delivery and pickup of work, promotion, printed materials, receptions, etc.).

Help maintain public art database.
