Google Power Protection Systems Engineer, Advanced Technology and Innovation in Reno, Nevada
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with communication/signaling protocols used in power engineering.
5 years of experience in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing using RTDS, OPAL-RT, or similar platforms.
5 years of experience in mission critical facilities and their electrical infrastructure.
5 years of experience in protection and control engineering.
Ability to travel 30% of the time.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience using electrical transient analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, and PSCAD.
Knowledge of communication/signaling protocols used in power engineering.
Familiarity with utility-scale energy storage technologies, particularly Lithium-ion batteries.
Ability to perform closed loop testing on protection and control systems.

With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $139,000-$207,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Work with senior team members on creating future data center protection and control concepts.
Work with execution and field testing teams to lead testing and commissioning efforts for power system protection.
Create and maintain power system models to optimize existing architectures and help solve power quality and protection issues.
Investigate renewable power generation, carbon free storage technologies, and find innovative and optimal ways to protect and control them.
