A Brief Summary of This Position:

The Global Trade Compliance Manager ensures compliant and efficient international shipments for the business units. Reporting to the Senior Director of Logistics, this role focuses on identifying non-compliance issues, ensuring adherence to trade regulations, and managing customs processes. Key responsibilities include applying trade laws, managing duty drawbacks, providing compliance training, conducting internal audits, and maintaining relationships with trade partners. The role also involves developing compliance systems, analyzing trade data, and staying updated on global trade regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • This position reports to the Senior Director of Logistics and currently has no direct reports

  • Determines areas of non-compliance, evaluates risk, and recommends corrective actions

  • Ensures compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations

  • Applies detailed knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) to classify goods correctly, facilitating smooth customs clearance and compliance.

  • Expertise in customs valuation to determine the correct value of imported goods (including understanding of adjustments to the customs value, such as, assists and others per Customs regulations)

  • Manages and processes duty drawback claims to recover duties paid on imported goods

  • Provides training and support to internal teams on customs compliance matters

  • Conducts internal audits (Trade Compliance), to ensure adherence to customs regulations and company policies

  • Executes and implements trade processes distills information into various reports and presents them accordingly

  • Research, report, and implement International Trade Data to ensure global import and export compliance

  • Develops, implements, enhances, and maintains trade compliance management systems, policies, procedures, and work instructions

  • Generates cost savings by reducing reliance on 3rd party service providers

  • Act as subject matter expert for company-wide trade inquiries

  • Maintains and updates Export Compliance program data

  • Analyzes goods for USMCA and other Free Trade Agreements eligibility, maintain certification for same

  • Maintains Valmont’s Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) certification and manages the overall program

  • Maintains relationships with Customs Brokers, Freight Forwarders, and Third-Party Global Trade Compliance providers

  • Researches and reports foreign market import/export admissibility of Valmont products, including customs duties and VAT

  • Maintains and updates the Corporate Compliance Manual

  • Researches and advises correct use of incoterms during purchasing negotiations

  • Ensures employee understanding of legal regulations and principles relative to the import and export of products through communications and training

  • Keeps abreast of changes in global trade regulations to ensure company compliance

  • Assists with the analysis of cost data to support the qualifications of goods for FTA's

  • Executes import and export compliance testing

  • Aids service providers (brokers & forwarders) with import/export activities as needed

  • Maintaining database with HS Code, ECCN & export restrictions for newly developed products

Other Important Details about the Role:

This position, reporting to the Senior Director of Logistics, works with global teams across various functions. It involves managing daily tasks, developing long-term strategies, and ensuring trade compliance. Strong communication skills, teamwork, and decision-making abilities are essential, along with a solid understanding of international trade practices.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

  • Preferred Bachelors with 6+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 8+ years relevant experience or 10+ years of relevant experience

  • International trade, customs, and/or international logistics experience and working environment

  • U.S. CBP Import/Export Compliance Programs knowledge

  • Exceptional organizational abilities, including managing large volumes of data, along with the capability to interpret data and regulations effectively

  • Able to travel up to 10% travel for local candidates; up to 20% travel for non-local candidates, including trips to Omaha as needed

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) preferred

  • International trade, customs, and/or international logistics experience preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of standard transportation/logistics practices, International transportation/logistics practices, and U.S. Customs

  • Licensed Customs Broker
