Amazon Sr. Microwave Sustaining Engineer, Project Kuiper in Redmond, Washington

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

As a Sr. Microwave Sustaining Engineer, you will work closely with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to sustain and scale production of RF hardware. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving hardware production rates, troubleshooting complex issues, and drive implementation of corrective actions. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Key job responsibilities

As a member of the team, you will be responsible for sustaining production of microwave/RF subsystem for use in space.

In this role you will:

• Provide technical support for existing RF productions and systems to production operation teams

• Test and troubleshoot failures of complex RF PCB and mechanical assemblies reported in product tests and conduct root-cause analysis

• Create and maintain technical documentation, including test procedures and report

• Drive implementation of corrective actions and mechanisms to prevent repeat of failures

• Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to enhance product reliability

• Perform as primary engineering point-of-contact to disposition all production non-conformance

• Mentor technicians

This position is in Redmond, WA. Some travel, both domestic and international, will be required. (Up to 30%.)

This position requires ability to lift up to 20 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.

A day in the life

You will regularly interact with production operation teams to enable high-rate delivery of RF hardware that will fly in space. This requires fast-paced execution of root-cause analysis and the ability to work well with others in a highly cross-functional organization.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering specializing in RF/Microwave design, or related discipline, or 10+ years of relevant experience.

• 7+ years of experience in microwave hardware design to component level, such as power amps, LNAs, mixers, and block down-converters, block up-converters, and etc.

• 7+ year of experience in microwave hardware troubleshooting, performing root-cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions

• Experience with RF lab equipment including VNA, power meters, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators, vector network analyzers.

• Experience with RF and EM simulation

software.

• Experience working in a RF Hardware production environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.

• Knowledge of manufacturing processes related to RF and space products

• Experience designing, testing, and verifying, and launching mass production products.

• Familiarity with quality systems and processes (e.g., ISO 9001)

• Good analytical, problem solving and communication skills.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $143,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
