Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Redmond, Washington

The Devices and Drivers team oversees the Windows PnP device and driver platform, working closely with Operating System (OS) and device technology teams (graphics, audio, network, storage, input, etc) and external hardware vendors and PC manufacturers to drive innovation across the Windows hardware ecosystem and make devices work seamlessly on PCs, servers, Azure, and other consumer and enterprise systems. As a member of the team, you will have the opportunity to work with highly motivated experts across Windows, Microsoft, and the hardware industry to build products and features that showcase the best of Windows and Microsoft technologies.

To deliver on our vision for a secure, reliable, and versatile hardware platform that blurs the line between hardware and software, we are looking for a Software Engineer II with problem solving, design, coding, and debugging skills combined with a drive for learning, execution, and customer results. You should have a desire to understand complex systems and produce high quality code that runs on millions of machines every time a driver is deployed, a device is installed, a system is booted, and a new device or peripheral is connected. Responsibilities

  • Work on OS and driver platforms, features, tools, and data intelligence pipelines.

  • Design, develop, test, and support features across new and established code bases.

  • Build secure, reliable, and maintainable software solutions.

  • Collaborate across the team and company to solve problems and build robust systems.

  • Provide timely support and guidance to internal and external partners and customers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience designing, developing, and testing robust software solutions

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with C/C++ systems programming

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Communication and collaboration skills

  • 1+ years of experience with OS concepts, device drivers, firmware, and/or kernel development

  • 1+ years of experience with debugging and root cause analysis

  • 1+ years of experience with data intelligence, databases, and analytics

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
