Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud.  Within CO+I, the Core Datacenter Services (DCS) team is responsible for the development and implementation of global strategies across our Datacenters (DCs) as a Software Engineer 2 focused on Infrastructure Utilization Efficiency (IUE) you will be responsible for the development and sustainment of current toolsets, maintenance of backend architecture, and feature adds, edits, or removals aimed at optimizing power management infrastructure across diverse geographical locations and multi-disciplinary teams. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain strategies for maximizing software tooling efficiency, reducing search time, sustaining automation, and being a source for team members to leverage.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Software Engineer 2 to join our dynamic team. The candidate selected will have experience with Power Platform tool maintenance, sustainment, as well as feature adds/edits/deletes supporting the management of cloud infrastructure programs. As a Software Engineer 2, you will play a key role in driving the successful tooling maintenance, development, and launching of new data aggregation for ongoing management of our cloud infrastructure initiatives across Microsoft (MSFT).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior developers and infrastructure engineers to design, develop, and implement scalable toolsets for datacenter infrastructure management.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of automation scripts and software applications to optimize IUE alongside Technical Program Managers (TPMs).

  • Assist in the integration of monitoring and alerting systems to ensure the reliability and performance of datacenter infrastructure.

  • Participate in code reviews, debugging, and troubleshooting to improve software quality and performance.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable software solutions.

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends related to datacenter infrastructure and scaling methodologies.

  • Document code, processes, and procedures to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration within the global team.

  • Provide support and assistance to team members as needed, including during software deployments and system upgrades.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of programming experience with at least 3 of the following (SQL, DAX, Kusto, Power Query, M)

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with software development methodologies, tools, and best practices

  • Experience with program management (scope, schedule, cost)

  • Working knowledge of datacenter infrastructure technologies, including server hardware, networking, and storage systems

  • Understanding of scalable software architectures, distributed systems, and cloud computing platforms

  • Proactive in learning and solving for complex technical challenges

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
