The growth of Azure is driven by the Azure Core organization which focuses on building a highly scalable, performant, and reliable distributed cloud, to deliver an infrastructure for hosting cloud applications in virtual servers and containers. We create an illusion that resources are limitless, infinitely elastic, and always available. This team owns the core management plane at regional level which is responsible for managing the lifecycle of all Virtual Machines (VMs) in Azure. We are in the process of redesigning this layer to provide extremely reliable and fast on-demand compute instances irrespective of the size and scale of the service (multiple orders of magnitude scalable, faster and reliable than today). We are working on architectural and structural improvements across the entire Azure Core stack. The team is working on a few different areas that will have reduced deployment times and improve reliability to surpass our competition. The approach here is multipronged. It involves algorithmic investments, deeply involved architectural/protocol changes to improve parallelization or eliminate steps in the workflow, and smart innovative solutions to pre-process as much of the work as possible. We focus on certain high impact scenarios to enable new businesses on Azure. We are a result-oriented team working vertically through the whole stack to deliver order of magnitude improvements.

As a Senior Software Engineer in Azure Compute, you will develop, implement test, debug, deploy and productize software features, drivers and associated tools or agents for the azure stack. You will be engaged in industry leading development of products that combine software and/or hardware elements. You will be working closely with senior leaders and customers to define the direction of the product and deliver impact working closely with engineers in the team to develop large-scale distributed software services and solutions. You will be able to provide thought leadership and technical direction with architectural inputs for the team to deliver high quality products. We expect the set-up to help you accelerate your own career growth, develop business acumen as well as technical expertise by working and learning closely with other senior leaders in the org.
