Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer- Azure Edge and Platform in Redmond, Washington

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Azure Edge and Platform to join our team! Microsoft Azure Edge + Platform (E+P) is a globally distributed team of engineers, architects, program managers, product managers, business program managers, business administrators, user experience researchers and designers who are responsible for the platform for Microsoft and for delivering Microsoft’s edge vision. Azure Edge + Platform engineering team is looking to hire talented and highly motivated Software Engineers to be on point for designing and implementing the next-generation Edge + Platform products and services for customers across the globe. This person will need to be solid technically, with in-depth knowledge and experience in analyzing data and requirements, designing, developing and releasing services or products to end users.

Responsibilities

The Azure Reliability Platform engineering team is looking to hire a talented and highly motivated Principal Software Engineer to be on point for architecting, designing and leading the implementation effort for the next-generation real time big data platform for all of Azure services and Azure customers. This person will need to be solid technically, with in-depth knowledge and experience in developing distributed cloud services, big data and good understanding of Operating Systems. In addition – this person will need to be a solid individual contributor– extending the team culture, helping plan and prioritize work, managing and growing team members, and ultimately deliver and be accountable for world-class cloud service.

This job is all about designing and implementing a scalable, highly available services which will be part of the core Azure fabric. As part of this team, you will be directly responsible for transforming loosely defined ideas into tangible design and driving the implementation and execution in order to bring the vision to life.

Traditional software engineering skills such as agile methodologies with a focus on efficiency, iterating quickly and failing fast. Ability to implement scalable, maintainable and efficient code.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in programming, design and problem-solving skills, with a solid bias for quality and engineering excellence

  • Experience developing cross-platform software

  • Experience with modern software development and/or big data technologies

Other Requirements:

  • Cloud Background check: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in developing and designing Operating Systems components like filesystems, Storage and kernel

  • Experience in implementing large scale, low latency and high-quality distributed systems.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, AWS or similar cloud computing platforms.

  • Experience creating, developing, delivering, deploying, maintaining online services.

  • Expertise and knowledge in Agile engineering practices (Continuous Integration, TDD)

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
