Microsoft Corporation Senior Electrical Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a Senior Electrical Engineer in the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Office of CO+I, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing new products and solutions that improve the performance, efficiency, and reliability of Microsoft's data centers. You will work with a cross-functional team of engineers, researchers, and business partners to identify customer needs, generate innovative ideas, and deliver high-quality solutions. You will also collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to ensure alignment with Microsoft's standards and specifications.

  • This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.

  • Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must ​relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

  • This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 50%.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and developing electrical circuits, schematics, layouts, and components for data center power products, such as UPS systems, PDUs, and power converters. 

  • Performing electrical simulations, analysis, and testing to verify the functionality, performance, and reliability of the products. 

  • Collaborating with mechanical, thermal, firmware, and software engineers to integrate electrical products into the data center system. 

  • Troubleshooting and resolving electrical issues and defects during the product development and deployment phases. 

  • Evaluating and selecting electrical components, vendors, and manufacturing partners for the products. 

  • Preparing and reviewing technical documentation, specifications, and reports for the products. 

  • Conducting research and staying updated on the latest trends and technologies in the data center power domain.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of technical engineering experienceo OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experienceo OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience

  • 2+ years experience with mission critical systems like datacenter, healthcare, oil, military, or utilities

  • 2+ years experience with designing systems and/or developing products for industrial or mission critical environments. 

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering.

  • Experience with cross-disciplined systems design ( IT/Telecom, building controls, supervisory control and data acquisition).  

  • Experience with Data center thermal systems design, analysis, and optimization of cooling systems for data center environments, hydronics, cooling distribution, liquid to liquid and liquid to air heat exchangers. 

  • Data Center Electrical Systems design, energy back-up and uninterrupted power supply, medium voltage switch gear, low voltage power distribution

Electrical Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
