Amazon Senior Battery Algorithms Engineer, Project Kuiper in Redmond, Washington

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will be focused on developing battery models (equivalent-circuit, aging, physics-based) and state estimation algorithms for the project Kuiper satellite. You will build algorithms that estimate the state of charge, state of health, and state of power of a battery and can be deployed on embedded or cloud platforms. You will be responsible for overall modeling & algorithm design, deployment, and test verification. You will work with large datasets to evaluate health of battery over life and track accuracy of models and performance of system to vehicle requirements.

A day in the life

About the team

The Battery Algorithms Engineer will be a key member of the avionics team which is responsible for the development and test of our low-earth-orbit satellite electrical power system. We are seeking excellent candidates who have a passion for battery and power management algorithms.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Redmond, WA, USA

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, or mechanical engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in simulation, modelling, and state estimation for lithium ion battery packs

  • 2+ years experience and working knowledge of Matlab or Python to extract, process, and store information from large datasets

Preferred Qualifications

  • Battery management system design experience in the area of charging, state estimation, and protection for electric vehicle, drones, satellite, or launch vehicles

  • Experience developing equivalent circuit, aging or physics based models for lithium-ion battery systems

  • Experience driving requirements for power/battery algorithm design and implementation of state of charge/health/power algorithms in software (embedded or cloud)

  • Experience creating and maintaining large simulation models in Python/Matlab and managing large data sets

  • Excellent skill at organizing data and communicating key requirements to hardware, software, and test verification team

  • Cross-organizational communication – comfortable evangelizing ideas and concerns clearly and persuasively, in both verbal and written forms

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
