Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud. We are responsible for delivering over 200 Microsoft web portals, Live and Online Services around the world including infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability. Within CO+I, the strategic Supply Chain team is responsible for establishing a supply chain that can meet the ever-growing growth of the Microsoft Cloud and our customers. We support a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-billion, multi-year datacenter construction and operations of those assets. We are looking to fill the critical role of Procurement Director for the Americas region.

• This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX, D.C. or Phoenix, AZ. 

• Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must ​relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

Responsibilities

*The role is responsible for leading a team and partnering with the broader Global Supply Chain teams including Planning & Analytics, Supplier Quality and overall Site Projects team to meet the on-time delivery for a large, complex capital project.  This role will partner with workgroups to drive strategy development and compliance through supplier selection, supplier selection and award, and contract management.  *

Procurement

• Leads a team of leaders who create, align, and maintain sourcing strategies to continuously re-evaluate and improve Microsoft procurement of Long-Lead Equipment.

• Drives strategic initiatives and helps facilitate for appropriate rhythm of business (ROB) process.

• Supports and develops standards in negotiation strategies.

• Assists in supplier selection, volume, capacity, contracting and performance management. Ensures alignment to Microsoft business goals, throughout.  

• Understands industry contracting norms and Microsoft contracting requirements; participates, leads and tracks negotiation and contracts that meet business goals.  

• Proactively segments suppliers, utilizes engagement programs and analytics to improve performance and achieve business goals.  

• Serves as regional contact point between suppliers and the Americas region across the various purchasing categories, develops and executes supplier account plans detailing priorities and focus for the supplier relationship for the upcoming period.  

   

Change Order Management

• Monitor and mitigate the impact of change orders to the project, and partners cross-functionally to resolve/escalate accordingly.   

• Act as the commercial Subject Matter Expert and prescribe the appropriate entitlement and justification for change orders related to long lead equipment.

• Negotiate Claims with the detailed understanding of the contractual conditions and partner with regional claims to settle or escalate.   

• Tracks change orders for overtime, schedule compression and acceleration as needed

   

Supplier Engagement & Performance

• Lead the team and suppliers for on-time delivery performance and reporting.

• Create mechanisms for risk mitigation related to equipment scheduling delays.

• Oversee supplier performance and interface cross functionally with both internal and external partners to proactively resolve issues.  

• Manage and lead technical risk management of design including timelines, SLA/KPI’s to ensure site timelines.  

• Manage and oversee all site related escalations related tolong lead equipment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Business, Finance or related field AND 9+ years experience (including internships) in Data Science/Analytics, Finance, Project Management, Supply Chain, and/or Operations

• OR Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Business, Finance or related field AND 7+ years experience in Data Science/Analytics, Finance, Project Management, Supply Chain, and/or Operations

• OR equivalent experience

• 5+ years of experience in direct sourcing and procurement on construction or industrial projects in excess of $50M

• 5+ years of experience working in a cross functional and global team environment on dynamic large-scale capital or manufacturing programs

• 5+ years of experience of Data Center, Mission Critical, Manufacturing or Industrial projects (projects with major mechanical / electrical engineering element such as Oil and Gas, Power Generation, hospitals, laboratories etc.)

• 5+ years of experience as a people leader

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical or financial field (engineering, finance, business administration, supply chain). Masters preferred.

• Knowledge of data center industry and experience managing a variety of project delivery methods - ability to lead a project team in defining risk and developing the appropriate contracting.

• High energy and drive to achieve results in midst of ambiguity and matrixed org.

• Technical ability to write contracts, ability to set up sourcing plans and negotiation strategies and execute them.

• Effective communicator that can interact with diverse groups across organizational levels.

• Familiarity with common process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six-Sigma, etc.) and ability to facilitate change management.

• Ability to implement new processes and get buy in from a cross functional team.

• Ability to drive sourcing strategy and supply chain execution for multiple categories.

• Able to integrate successfully into large-scale construction projects - large dollar contracts of over $400Million

• Willingness & ability to travel up to 20%

Sourcing and Category Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $273,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $299,400 per year.
