Microsoft Corporation Principal Technical Program Manager - Datacenter Infrastructure in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO+I, the Core Datacenter Services (DCS) team is responsible for the development and implementation of global strategies across our Datacenters (DCs). As a Principal Technical Program Manager - Datacenter Infrastructure focused on Infrastructure Utilization Efficiency (IUE), you will be responsible for leading and managing dependent stake holder objective key results (OKRs), partner team projects, analytics, and growing key business partnerships aimed at optimizing power management infrastructure across diverse geographical locations and multi-disciplinary teams. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies for maximizing efficiency, increasing energy consumption, and ensuring sustainable practices in our cloud infrastructure.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Technical Program Manager - Datacenter Infrastructure to join our dynamic team. The candidate will have a proven track record in managing enterprise level programs in a complex cloud infrastructure environment, ensuring seamless integration of cloud services, and optimizing performance across the organization. As a Principal Technical Program Manager - Datacenter Infrastructure, you will play a key role in driving a successful multi-year strategy, implementation of strategies and ongoing management of our cloud infrastructure initiatives across Microsoft.

Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Strategy:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive multi-year program strategy to optimize infrastructure utilization across Microsoft's global datacenters.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align program goals with organizational objectives and business priorities.

  • Lead cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and finance, to ensure program success.

Technical Expertise and Management:

  • Utilize technical knowledge of datacenter infrastructure, including substation power, building power, and tile power consumption, to drive program initiatives.

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of power distribution systems within datacenters to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Analyze and interpret data related to power consumption to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.

Project Planning and Execution:

  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets for program initiatives.

  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure timely and successful delivery.

  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of program activities.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all program-related activities, providing regular updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.

  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including datacenter operators, engineers, and external vendors.

  • Prepare and present comprehensive reports, presentations, and dashboards to communicate program status, achievements, and challenges.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing best practices, innovative solutions, and process enhancements.

  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements related to datacenter infrastructure and power utilization.

  • Lead efforts to pilot and evaluate new technologies and methodologies to enhance program outcomes.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing infrastructure solutions within large-scale datacenter environments.

  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Technical expertise in substation power, building power, and tile power consumption within datacenters.

  • Experience with project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum)

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets, identify patterns, and derive actionable insights to drive informed decision-making.

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams, and drive consensus.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and thrive in an evolving industry landscape.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
