Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington
We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to be a part of the Bing Performance Team. The Bing stack is comprised of hundreds of thousands of servers worldwide, and we are dedicated to delivering world-class performance. Bing is part of the Microsoft AI (MAI) organization which also includes Copilot, Edge browser, Maps, Ads, News, and other projects. Your objective will be to analyze and optimize the performance of the Bing search engine. Your emphasis will be on front-end (client side) code, where you will utilize and grow your skills using state-of-the-art tools and techniques. As part of your work, you will stay current with industry trends in web technologies, browser capabilities, and optimizing performance. Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership related to front-end (client side) optimization of Bing Search and LLM-driven Generative Search projects.
Prototype, develop, and ship optimizations to ensure smooth rendering of large-scale, real-time data and model-generated content.
Lead by example and mentor others on how to optimize performance of complex web pages.
Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and optimization techniques.
Collaborate closely with engineers, program managers, and leaders across the organization.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
4+ years building and optimizing web-based systems for PCs and Mobile using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Fluency in JavaScript.
Understanding of web standards, network protocols, and how browsers work
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in full-stack development and building distributed systems at scale using C# or similar language.
Experience with data mining for quantitative analysis.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
