We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join the AI-powered services and platform team, pushing the boundaries of modern creation experiences across the M365 ecosystem of applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Designer. Responsibilities

  • Design, code, test, and deploy features with quality, maintainability, and end to end ownership in collaboration with project lead, user experience (UX) Designers and product managers.

  • Act as a technical leader, guiding the team through complex problems. Review and contribute to the specifications and implementations written by other team members.

  • Work closely with engineering managers and break down long-term project vision into milestones as part of an overall roadmap.

  • Collaborate effectively within the team and with partner teams across Microsoft.

  • Proactively seek new information and adjust tonew trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance while also driving monitoring improvements and operations at scale.​

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in building:

  • high scale services backend with focus on engineering for machine learning (ML) systems OR

  • modern web user experience (UX)/Frontend, TypeScript, JavaScript or React across platforms.

Other Requirement

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in data structures and algorithms with design, debugging, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to communicate and work cross group and across disciplines. 

  • Ability to navigate uncertain situations and making well-informed decisions amidst ambiguity.

  • Ability to handle customers, product quality, engineering excellence, test engineering and having a growth mindset.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
