Microsoft’s Cloud business is experiencing explosive growth, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the infrastructure underlying this growth. CSCP is responsible for strategic sourcing, customer demand forecasting, capacity planning and management, supply chain planning and execution, capacity provisioning, and decommissioning and dispositioning of datacenter assets worldwide.

The Network Infrastructure Deployment team delivers the hyper-scale, low latency, high-reliability network connecting customers around the globe to the rapidly growing Microsoft Cloud. As part of the Cloud and Enterprise organization, we support the needs of more than 200 Microsoft online services, including Bing, Office 365, SharePoint, Skype, OneDrive and several hundred thousand customers using Azure to host and run their Cloud Services in over 100 datacenters, running millions of servers and edge computing nodes all over the world. As a Principal Program Manager, Network Deployments , you will be able to develop and execute on strategies to deliver Cloud network infrastructure along with the related technologies to support data center capacity demands at scale in a dynamic, fast paced environment. Applying a system thinking approach, you will need to understand the product/program lifecycle process, apply technical insights and deep knowledge of constraints along the deployment execution process and across ecosystem teams to drive network deployments that ensure predictable delivery of capacity to end customers on time. You are part of a global team where you will plan, lead, and coordinate with global stakeholders and external suppliers to deploy greenfield and brownfield network infrastructure sites.

Responsibilities

  • Driving process excellence across the Network Deployment team, looking for opportunities to deliver a more standardized approach to delivering capacity

  • Working with partners on defining and controlling program scope, creating, and executing to committed schedules. as well as maintaining and reporting out program deliverables

  • Driving continuous improvement of deployment processes, including assessment of program delivery capabilities, gathering, leveraging performance data/metrics, establishing corresponding targets, and measurement of on-going progress improvement initiatives

  • Enabling and supporting workflow orchestration, and integration efforts whilst enabling systemic automation along with effective data management.

  • Leading with outstanding communication, problem solving, analytical and program management skills

  • Coordinating with datacenter operations and engineering teams to improve scalable deployment activity and related performance

  • Responsibility for end-to-end deployment lifecycle, carefully balancing delivery quality and managing priorities, taking corrective actions as necessary to meet stated business objectives

  • Working independently in a dynamic and high-pressure environment and timely delivery despite ambiguous and changing business requirements.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements

  • The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are needed for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screening: Microsoft Cloud Background Check - requirement to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check is needed upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • 6+ years network infrastructure experience and proven track record of coordinating hyper scale program/project delivery within large IT/Telecommunications and/or Internet Service Provider experience and industry concepts

  • Demonstrated technical/process problem solving and communication skills with the ability to make sense of ambiguity and drive outcomes and

  • Excellent analytical, verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail and proven track record of large-scale program/project delivery and expertise in deployment of high-performance, highly available, large scale distributed network and related technologies, preferably in tier one cloud provider datacenters

  • Knowledge and understanding of cloud infrastructure and datacenter environments such as power, physical space, rack units, cooling, cable routing and management

  • Networking experience and understanding of network infrastructure, routing, load balancing, Internet transport protocols and optical networking

  • Knowledge of supply chain management, procurement processes, trade restrictions and associated financial and project controls

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
