Microsoft Corporation Critical Environment Application SQL Database Administrator in Redmond, Washington

As a CE Application SQL Database Administrator (DBA) you act as the subject matter expert responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, performance and optimization of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems to ensure the availability and consistent performance of the global Industrial Control System (ICS) applications for the Microsoft Class A data centers. You will be required to perform patching, upgrades, repairs or improvements for overall system health. Additionally, build and create areas of improvement for optimization, reporting, and automation for overall system health and performance. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as interpersonal and communication skills. In this role you will be part of the global Datacenter Monitoring and Controls Engineering (DMCE) team, where you can work with a technically diverse team to learn and contribute to many aspects of control systems – execution, telemetry, security, service, operations and optimization. This is a flexible role allowing you to fully work remote.

As a CE Application SQL DBA you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.

Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100%.

Responsibilities

  • Manage on-prem SQL Server databases, including backups, restores, recovery models, and scheduled maintenance.

  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, monitor system health and performance, and ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.

  • Apply data modeling techniques and assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.

  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing end-to-end problem resolution.

  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.

  • Build innovative solutions to modernize SQL environment.

  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years MS SQL Server Administration experience.

  • 1+ year of experience working with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Azure.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 5+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 1+ year(s) technical experience working with large-scale cloud or distributed systems.

  • Management Information Systems (MIS), or other industry or product specific Engineering Certifications.

  • Experience with Industrial Control Systems, Building Automation Systems (BAS), Electrical Power Monitoring

  • Systems (EPMS), Battery Monitoring Systems (BMS).

  • Project management experience with a focus on agile methodologies.

  • Ability to manage, prioritize and successfully execute multiple concurrent mission-critical infrastructure projects.

  • Ability to balance competing demands for resources and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Proven ability to deliver projects on-time and adherence to deadlines.

  • Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams.

Service Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
