Summary:
NJ Transit is searching for a reliable and experienced Welder to join our team. Qualified applicants must pass physical welding test AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code for unlimited thickness in all positions.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions and diagrams to perform task at hand.
Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
Produce welds that are 100% X-ray quality and demonstrate knowledge and skills in safe rigging practices.
Walk over and work on top on fixed, overhead fixed and movable railroad bridges.
Climb stairwells and ladders (with fall prevention equipment) to perform work.
Demonstrate complete knowledge in welding, rigging, fabrication, and torching.
Express knowledge of industrial safety and OSHA guidelines.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
Qualified applicants MUST pass physical welding test AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code for unlimited thickness in all positions.
Must be a Certified Welder
Demonstrate extreme attention to detail and full understanding of all safety codes and procedures
Work outdoors in all type of weather conditions, including confined spaces at various heights
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Possess physical ability to use various types of hand and power tools
Possess exceptional problem solving and team leadership skills
Provide a valid Driver’s License and High School Diploma or GED
Successfully pass the pre-screening process which includes a physical and drug test, employment verification, criminal history, and driving background checks
Physical Requirements:
Qualified applicants must have the ability to:
Stoop, bend, crawl, balance, climb and kneel
Wear protective equipment such as hardhat, safety glasses, and safety-toe boots
Perform heavy lifting and carrying tasks with the weight of up to (50) fifty pounds
Work Location:
Red Bank, NJ; Structural Welders must be willing and able to travel to any of our NJ Transit locations as required.
Rate of pay:
This is a Unionized position. The pay rates are tiered and are non-negotiable. The current hourly pay rate is $35.70/hour.
