JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Berks Housing and Food Services is searching for a full time Food Service Utility Worker to join their team. Duties include:

  • Set up dish machines and equipment for operation

  • Receive, clean and wash soiled dishes, silverware, trays, utensils, conveyor belts and other equipment as required

  • Remove, stock and store clean dishes in proper areas

  • Wash, scour, rinse, dry and properly store all pots and pans and equipment at pot sink area and maintain area in a clean and sanitary condition

  • Operate and maintain kitchen and cleaning equipment such as the dish machine, scrubbing machine, buffer, vacuum cleaner, etc.

  • Report malfunctions to supervisor

  • Set up serving counters, beverage and condiment stations with appropriate food, beverage, ice and supplies

  • Replenish serving lines with silver, trays, napkins, and dishes as needed

  • Clean and maintain floors, ceilings, walls, windows and lavatories, etc., using ladders and scaffolding when necessary

  • Sweep, dust, mop, wash, scrub, wax, buff, strip, seal, and perform related activities in various locations such as the office, kitchen areas, storeroom, locker rooms, rest rooms, receiving docks, garbage area, dining rooms, etc.

  • Replace light bulbs and perform minor repair and other duties as required using ladders and scaffolding when necessary

  • Collect, empty, clean and maintain in sanitary condition garbage and trash cans; operate incinerators and disposals as required

  • Set up dining rooms for special functions as scheduled

  • Move tables, chairs, partitions to designated arrangements

  • Place portable coffee urns and other beverage and food dispensers as directed

  • Dismantle and clean exhaust system and filter

  • Assist and perform storeroom duties as required

  • Operate University vehicle to transport food and supplies to and from various locations on campus

  • Load and unload vehicle

    Job Requirements: Requires the use of simple writing, adding, subtracting, whole numbers and the carrying out of instructions; and the use of fixed gauges and direct reading instruments and devices in which interpretation is not required. Up to and including 3 months of effective experience.

NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.

Work Schedule: Tuesday-Thursday 9:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Friday/Saturday 12:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m.Days Off: Sunday, Monday

This position is part of the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union No. 8 and has a starting hourly wage of $16.62 After six (6) full pay periods (bi-weekly) from the date of hire, the rate increases to $18.50 per hour.
