LOCATION:

Position Summary:

Reports to the MTC medical regional director. Coordinate services with the physician. Directly physician, midlevel,

medical records technician, medical records clerk, dentist, dental assistant, mental health professional, secretary II,

pharmacy technician, and radiologic technologist. Responsible for the management of health services and the

dental programs in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.

Essential Functions:

  1. Plan, coordinate and manage the administrative and health services activities of the department.

  2. Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance and implement department and personnel changes as

approved by the customer and coordinated with the manager, human resources prior to implementation.

  1. Develop departmental budget; monitor and control expenditures; review and recommend changes to budget

authorizations.

  1. Implement new and revised policies and procedures affecting health services; coordinate with other

departments to ensure compliance with overall facility objectives.

  1. Manage and conduct coordinated health care for detainees, other health related programs and serve as a

member of the Mental Health Team, QI, UM, Safety, P&T communities and others as required.

  1. Act as liaison between the facility and health consultants and coordinate the Mental Health Programs.

  2. Manage the record keeping and reports on injuries, diseases, death and disabilities of detainees.

  3. Manage in-service training in health related areas for other departments.

  4. Coordinate with local agencies for planning and conducting environmental health inspections.

  5. Coordinate, review and approve payment to all outside vendors, subcontracted staff and services ensuring

that expenditures are within contractual and budgetary limitations.

  1. Coordinate with other center staff concerning health services.

  2. Ensure that health services department is in compliance with all applicable OSHA guidelines and

regulations.

  1. Requires prolonged periods of walking and standing.

  2. Regular attendance is required.

  3. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening

when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills

procedures and intervention techniques.

  1. Maintain accountability of staff, detainees and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by

management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. A minimum of five (5) years professional experience in health

care administration, preferably in a correctional environment. May be a licensed registered nurse in the state of

Texas. Must possess current CPR certification. Must successfully complete required preservice training. Valid

driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements:

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and maintain appropriate facility clearance.
