Essential Job Duties:

Positions in this class perform semi-skilled small engine, automotive and heavy equipment repair. Work includes performance of a wide range of progressively responsible tasks involving the service, inspection, repair, rebuild and diagnosis of a diverse number of mechanical systems for a variety of gasoline, diesel, and alternative powered engines/equipment. Work ranges from inspection and service to moderately complex mechanical systems analysis using advanced diagnostic instruments and software and conducting parts/systems failure analysis. Positions must routinely determine materials, techniques and tools to accomplish work assignments. Work assignments vary in complexity depending on the type of mechanical system and/or ancillary components/equipment. Positions in this class perform a variety of recurring and related tasks and repairs such as inspecting and replacing brake pads and shoes, replacing regulators, alternators and belts, and/or fitting or repairing standard aftermarket upgrades and equipment.

Perform semi-skilled automotive and heavy equipment repair. Perform tasks involving the service, inspection and repair of university owned vehicles and equipment.

Required Qualifications:

Some knowledge of the techniques and methods involved in determining and solving mechanical issues and performing PM services.

Some knowledge of the techniques and methods involved in determining and solving mechanical difficulties. ? Ability to use and operate the various machines and instruments commonly found in an automotive and/or heavy equipment repair shop. ? Some skill in the performance of moderately complex duties relating to the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment or ability to learn on the job. ? Ability to follow oral and written instructions. ? Physical strength sufficient to work at heavy manual labor for considerable periods of time.
