Our Raleigh, North Carolina (NC) office is looking for a Civil Operator or Designer with 8+ years of experience to join our Roadway team!

Responsibilities

The Roadway Designer is responsible for leading the design and drafting of roadway projects, including highways, streets, and related infrastructure. This role involves advanced technical work using design software, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and mentoring junior designers. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in roadway design and a deep understanding of applicable standards and regulations.

• Implement and manage drafting and plan preparation standards

• Developtechnical drawings and plans

• The person in this position will make and quality check drawings and plans of substantial complexity and may perform some multifaceted calculations

• Requires minimal supervision to perform day to day tasks

• Has knowledge of engineering principles and suggests design changes

• Maintains drawing database

• Will supervise and train CAD staff

• Coordinates work activities to maintain schedules and ensure quality control

• Develop familiarity with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and standards

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (associates degree preferred)

• Ability to set up and manage printing/plotting settings

• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D , MicroStation , and other relevant software; familiarity with tools like OpenRoads or InRoads is a plus.

• Strong knowledge of AASHTO design guidelines , state DOT standards, and ADA compliance for roadway design.

• Strong work ethic, interpersonal communication/writing skills and desire to learn

• Ability to work independently and with a team

• Willingness to mentor and teach others

• Detail oriented, professional attitude, good communication, team player, self-starter
