CITY OF RALEIGH Electrician in Raleigh, North Carolina

This position is the first level of a two-tiered training program developing skilled, licensed tradespeople who will perform the same electrical work as the electricians. Responsibilities include constructing, renovating, and maintaining our utility plant facilities and equipment. You will additionally provide work direction and review of electricians and other employees assigned to installing, inspecting, and repairing electrical systems.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs journey-level electrical work, including installation, maintenance, and repair of process instrumentation, electrical controls, power distribution, process equipment, power generation, and automation systems for water treatment plants and remote facilities
  • P rovides direction and review the work of other electricians
  • T roubleshoots electrical distribution infrastructure, equipment, and systems to identify and resolve issues, including evaluating safety and reliability, determining repair needs, and coordinating resources
  • Performs inspections, preventative maintenance, and installs, maintains, and repairs security, fire alarm, and access control systems
  • Manages technical documentation, maintains records, determines material needs, and manages inventory. Evaluates project impact, coordinates with stakeholders, and provides support to other trades
  • Responds to emergency repairs as needed to due inclement weather or other emergency-related events

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED and four years of journey-level electrician experience

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
