Radford University Maker Space Manager & IT Support Specialist in Radford, Virginia

Job Summary:

  • Manage the Radford University Maker Space, ensuring it is a safe and welcoming environment for students and faculty to explore and develop their creative projects.

  • Develop and implement innovative programming and workshops to engage students and faculty in the exploration of digital and physical fabrication.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to students in the utilization of cutting-edge technologies and hand tools available within the Maker Space and in other specialized studios.

  • Monitor and maintain equipment and space within the Maker Space, ensuring all resources are operational and conducive to creative endeavors. Contribute to the maintenance of specialized equipment in studio spaces in the Artis Center.

  • Collaborate with other staff members to plan and execute special projects and programs that enhance the Maker Space experience.

  • Assist in the planning and budgeting processes for the Maker Space, ensuring resources are allocated effectively.

  • Utilize usage data and other metrics to continually improve programming and the overall Maker Space experience.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to of 3-D printing, laser, CNC , and other digital and physical fabrication technologies, providing timely support to users. Contribute to troubleshooting issues related to specialized equipment in studio spaces in the Artis Center.

  • Demonstrate expertise in 3-D printing and digital fabrication technologies, staying abreast of advancements in the field.

  • Ensure compliance and training with relevant regulations and safety standards within the Maker Space environment. Contribute to such efforts in studio spaces in the Artis Center, as well.

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with of 3-D printing, laser, CNC , and other digital fabrication technologies, as well as woodworking equipment and hand tools.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with students, faculty, and staff.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to think creatively.

  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Experience with environmental health and safety protocols.

  • Experience in IT support or troubleshooting is preferred.

  • Passion for fostering creativity and innovation in a higher education setting.
