BAE Systems is looking for a highly motivated engineer to lead process and product test development activities at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. This position would be working on a variety of testing activities in our Research and Development (R&D) group including supporting existing production activities.

We believe in work-life balance and this position works a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off

As a Senior Research and Development Test Engineer, you will work with scientists and engineers to design and integrate testing protocols, software, equipment/instrumentation, and hardware to characterize and evaluate manufacturing processes and product performance.

Interested candidates should exhibit sound judgment, initiative and self-motivation, and be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision. Solid communication, teamwork and integration skills will be required to work effectively across functions at multiple levels. The ability to manage time effectively while dealing with a variety of issues in a dynamic environment will be key to the success of this individual.

The successful candidate will under his/her own initiative:

  • Integrate test software, test equipment and product hardware/software to test complex products.

  • Demonstrated technical ownership of test equipment on multiple complex programs.

  • Troubleshoot complex problems.

  • Provide training, guidance and mentoring to engineers and technicians on complex test equipment and programs.

  • Identify and provide specifications for test equipment that supports ongoing production, laboratory experiments and small through full-scale process development.

  • Qualify test equipment in support of production.

  • Provide test support to BAE production departments.

  • Maintain adequate records of work and present in a form suitable for management and legal reporting.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Associates Degree or higher in instrumentation or scientific/engineering field.

  • At least 5 years of testing experience to include working with high speed digital data acquisition systems.

  • Electronics troubleshooting and instrument familiarity (analog, digital, power, communications, etc.).

  • Experience with computer programming and hardware integration.

  • Experience, knowledge, and adherence to sound engineering lifecycle workflow principles across hardware, software, network, interfaces, high-level/detail design, integration, verification testing.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in problem solving and critical thinking.

  • Experience with electronics test equipment design, implementation, and integration.

  • Ability to interpret and implement test requirements.

  • Technical writing and presentation skills are required.

  • Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelors degree or higher in instrumentation or engineering field.

  • Experience in propellant / energetics, manufacturing and/or ballistic results.

  • Experience with firing systems for energetics.

  • Experience with high speed video camera systems.

  • Proficient in C#, C , Python programming languages.

  • Experience with interpreting and adhering to government military specifications.

  • Strong safety knowledge including hazard identification and knowledge of safety processes.

  • Ability to work well in team environment.

  • Strong customer focus.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $102200 - $173700

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
