RECREATION COORDINATOR

We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Recreation Coordinator to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Recreation Coordinator for our Families w/ Children facility located in the Jamaica area of Queens, NY. As the Recreation Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in our organization, leading afternoon/evening activities that enrich, educate, and bring much-needed fun to our children. Our facility has a recreation group for elementary school children as young as 5 years old, a middle school group, and a teen group. ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS, INC.

Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize, attend, and supervise field trips.

  • Coordinate and supervise team games and sporting events.

  • Lead arts & crafts projects.

  • Ensure the safety and engagement of children in assigned activities.

  • Assist with events, fairs, holiday events, and theatrical plays.

  • Additional duties and projects as assigned by the Assistant Manager of Recreation.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.

  • Experience leading activities with children or teens.

  • Competency in youth development and childcare.

  • A desire to work with children in a recreational setting.

  • Group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and respectfully with people from all walks of life.
