New York Edge Curriculum Writer (Part Time) in Queens, New York

New York Edge is a non-profit organization and one of the largest providers of school-based afterschool programs in New York City and the metropolitan region serving over 25,000 elementary, middle, and high school students annually. The mission of New York Edge is to help bridge the opportunity gap among students in underinvested communities by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, and leadership skills for success in life.

THE ROLE

New York Edge is actively seeking experienced curriculum writers to join our team and play a pivotal role in supporting the development of engaging and effective learning experiences for students. As a curriculum writer at New York Edge, you will collaborate closely with our curriculum team, activity instructors, experience designers, and program directors to craft and facilitate the implementation of high-quality curricula.

The ideal candidate for this part-time role should possess a profound understanding of various instructional design models, including but not limited to Understanding by Design (UbD), DACUM model, Backward Design Method, and the ADDIE framework (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Additionally, a working knowledge of the New York State K-12 Common Core Learning Standards is essential, along with the ability to create content that is tailored to specific grade levels.

Key responsibilities for the curriculum writer position include:

  • Evaluation and Adaptation: Assess, adapt, and modify existing published curricula to align with the unique needs and objectives of New York Edge.

  • Review of Current Materials: Conduct thorough assessments of New York Edge's current curricula and training materials, identifying areas for improvement and enhancement.

  • Collaborative Meetings: Regularly engage in meetings with the curriculum team, instructional staff, and program directors to discuss curriculum requirements and effective implementation strategies.

  • Curriculum Development: Transform identified needs and requirements into meticulously outlined curricula that adhere to specific formats and standards, ensuring alignment with our organization's mission and goals.

  • Integration of Instructional Technologies: Exhibit the capacity to incorporate instructional learning technologies into curricula, including the utilization of Learning Management Systems (LMS), tools like Milanote, and project management platforms like Asana. This integration enhances the effectiveness of our educational programs.

    Candidate Requirements:

  • An unwavering belief that all students can be successful and that dynamic and well-thought-out instruction is key to learning.

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or another related education field (e.g., elementary education)

  • Preferred graduate degree in education or another related field (e.g., early childhood)

  • 2+ years of curriculum development experience

  • Candidates will need to submit samples of previous work in the curriculum with a narrative explaining the process for development.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with professional personnel and partners.

  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills.

    Compensation: $40-50 an hour. Hourly rate offered is subject to candidate's experience, credentials, and field expertise.

    This is a part-time position working up to 25 hours a week.
