Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. Reporting to the Director of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program, the College Laboratory Technician duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist faculty in reinforcing concepts taught in class during laboratory sessions
Maintain the day-to-day activities and services of the physical therapy skills labs
Maintain safety and cleanliness in the PTA laboratories following college, program, and OSHA guidelines
Maintain supplies and safety equipment in laboratories for proper hygiene and college health protocol
Monitor PTA student locker rooms usage, cleanliness, and safety
Maintain PTA program storeroom and manage equipment usage as per laboratory needs of the courses
Maintains equipment and ensures its operation; performs minor maintenance/repair to laboratory equipment.
Request repair or replacement for faulty equipment, furniture, and structure in the PTA laboratories
Manage laundry needs for the PTA laboratories
Collaborate with program faculty in scheduling laboratory classes, practice hours, and locker room open hours
Organize and monitor open laboratory sessions
Assist program faculty in proctoring laboratory practicals and written exams as needed
Provide individual remediation of laboratory skills at request of program faculty and individual student
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of modern computer programs; Proficiency with multimedia and educational platforms, i.e. Blackboard
Excellent interpersonal, interprofessional, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work as part of a team and cooperate with others for the good of the institution
Flexible hours required
Experience as instructor in academic and/or clinical educationpreferred
COMPENSATION
$31.22 - $45.11 per hour.
