Academic Program Specialist (HEOa)

POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Executive Director of Queens College Global Programs, the Global Student Success Specialist will deliver post-admissions immigration services to newly admitted Global Student Success Program students and other international students. The candidate will serve as the Designated School Official (DSO), generate reports to track academic progress and report this information to campus stakeholders as well as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on a regular basis using the SEVIS web-based tracking system.

Alongside the CUNY Title Overview, responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:

  • Advise international students and their dependents and help them maintain lawful immigration status through continuous education on immigration regulations, policies and procedures.

  • Ensure institutional compliance with federal regulations by performing timely and accurate registration and reporting of all F-1 students to the government.

  • Verify and monitor tuition paid, residency, and academic progress to comply with State, College and Partner policies using a variety of resources, such as EAB and Excel.

  • Work closely with campus Finance to reconcile financial data for internal audits.

  • Provide training and guidance to campus partners on immigration regulations, international student advisement, employment and intercultural education concerns.

  • Process immigration documents for program extensions, transfers, employment authorization and a variety of other documents required to help students maintain F-1 status.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SEVIS, F-1 immigration systems and work, including previous work as a DSO.

  • Prior experience in higher education, especially work related to student services.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.

  • Computer and technology skills, proficiency with Excel and Outlook

Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.

  • Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.

  • Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings

  • Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management

  • Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services

  • Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures

  • Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials

  • May supervise office operations and/or department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary ranges from $52,267 to $56,447. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
