Aircraft Mechanic III

Troubleshoots malfunctions in various aircraft systems and performs general mechanical maintenance of the assigned aircraft. Services, repairs, and overhauls aircraft and aircraft engines to ensure airworthiness. Repairs, replaces and rebuilds aircraft structures such as wings, fuselage and functional components including rigging, surface controls and plumbing and hydraulic units. Ability to use hand-tools, power tools, machines and equipment such as shears, sheet-metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun and drills. Reads and interprets manufacturers and service maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. Inspects turbine blades to detect cracks or breaks. Tests engine operation, using testing equipment, such as ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, and ammeter, to locate source

of malfunction. Replaces and repairs worn or damaged components, using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment. Removes engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck. Disassembles and inspects parts for wear, warping, or other defects. Repairs and replaces defective engine parts; reassembles and installs engine in aircraft. Adjusts, repairs and replaces electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories. Performs complex troubleshooting on avionics and electrical mission systems using test equipment. Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens, greasing moving parts and checking brakes. May service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition. May specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision and functional spare parts and assemblies. May specialize in engine repair. Perform check out, removal and replacement of cartridge activated devices. Troubleshoots faults to determine malfunctions on aircraft avionic components and electrical system components such as airborne navigation and communication systems, weather radar, compass systems and accessories down to the component level. Utilize various electronic support benches, such as a Consolidated

Automated Support System bench, to facilitate troubleshooting and repair of aircraft systems as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience in relevant aircraft/systems (S-92, VH-92A, VH-3D, and VH-60N). A&P License/FAA Certification preferred.

  • Education requirement: High School diploma or GED

  • Experience with military rotary aviation preferred. Working knowledge of military

  • publications, drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams and schematics are mandatory. Must be knowledgeable of supply procedures, IMRL accounting, as well as aircraft and engine logbooks and aircraft accounting system.

Security Clearance:

  • Position requires the ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance and maintain a favorable Tier 5 background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • S-92, VH-92A, VH-3D, and VH-60N experience preferred.
