Department Profile:**

The Anti-Money Laundering Risk (AML Risk) team is embedded within the Firm’s business line. It is responsible for identifying, assessing and escalating potential money laundering and reputational risks associated with higher risk client types. The AML Risk team is considered to be in the First Line of defense and supports the onboarding, client due diligence, enhanced due diligence and negative news processes for Morgan Stanley.

Role Description: * Perform Quality Control reviews for the Firm’s Wealth Management and US Banks businesses to ensure accounts are compliant with applicable internal procedure and policy requirements, along with external regulations, for the BSA/AML, KYC, Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), and Negative News Screening (NNS) program * Perform specific targeted testing of designated processes as instructed by management * Effectively document and communicate any identified errors/discrepancies to the appropriate business line unit and/or management and ensure that corrective action is taken * Maintain internal tracking log for all remedial items and collaborate and communicate with business partners to ensure that deadlines are met * Partner with the Business Unit, including Financial Advisors and Branch Risk Officers, to ensure appropriate client on-boarding due diligence processes are enacted while providing a positive client experience * Assist in preparing ongoing and ad hoc reporting for senior management * Escalate potential risk issues associated with new account opening customer profiles with internal management and the Second Line of Defense Bank AML Compliance teams * Assess and mitigate the Firm’s Wealth Management and US Banks (including Retail and Institutional client-bases) businesses exposure to money laundering and reputational risk-relevant activities * Actively identify, measure, control, and remediate money laundering and reputational risk issues with partners in Second Line of Defense Global Financial Crimes, Compliance and the Business Unit * Contribute to the planning and performance of internal reviews of controls residing within various product and business areas to ensure that controls are adequately designed and are operating effectively * Collaborate with the AML Compliance group to ensure BSA/AML programs operate effectively and continue to comply with regulations and changes in regulations * Assist in maintaining and updating procedures, and proposing testing methods or alternative recommendations for process improvements and program efficiency * Maintain knowledge concerning AML/BSA developments including OCC requirements relating to AML and the USA Patriot Act * #LI-AJ1

  • Qualifications:*
    • Have 2 plus years of relevant experience with BSA/AML Regulations within the financial services industry, or at a financial services regulator (e.g., FINRA, Securities and Exchange Commission, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Reserve Bank, etc.)
    • Associate or Bachelor degree in Business, Finance, or other related field
    • Strong knowledge of Know Your Customer (KYC), Customer Identification Program and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) requirements
    • Strong work ethic and ability to produce work product with a high degree of integrity
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
    • Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment
    • Ability to work both independently and with team members, under tight deadlines
    • Ability to handle highly confidential information professionally and with appropriate discretion **

Skills Desired:

  • Working knowledge of MS Office (e.g. Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
  • Experience using Due Diligence Screening Tools (e.g. Lexis Nexis, Factiva, DDIQ, World Check, CLEAR, Regulatory Data Corporation (RDC), Actimize)
  • Certification as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist by ACAMS or equivalent AML certification/license is a plus

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $70,000 and $100,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
