Summary of Duties:
Under general supervision, this position extracts DNA or RNA from a variety of sample types and performs diagnostic assays including PCR, RT-PCR, and Real-Time PCR; Assists in new test development; Enters data into Laboratory Information Management System; follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and conforms to Quality Assurance standard; provides assistance to the faculty member(s) and manager in charge of the Molecular Diagnostics section of WADDL. Eligibility and understanding of BSL-2 & 3 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required.
Required Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, zoology, or a related science; OR equivalent education/experience.
• Physical eligibility required for working in a BSL-2 & 3 environment. See the following link for more information: https://www.cdc.gov/training/QuickLearns/biosafety/
• Must be able to and willing to work overtime and possibly travel to perform field work in the event of a disease outbreak (Driver's License required).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Education to include at least 10 semester credit hours or 15 quarter credit hours in microbiology.
• Experience in diagnostic microbiology laboratory.
• Demonstrated skill and knowledge in isolation of DNA/RNA from tissue and body fluids/samples, followed by PCR.
• Experience working with zoonotic agents in appropriate biosafety levels.
• Knowledge of infectious diseases.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Monthly Salary:
$4,410 to $5,929 | Range 50 (Steps A-M) | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
