Collins Aerospace is looking for an Associate Director of High Temperature Composite (HTC) Value Stream Engineering (VSE) who will provide leadership as the head of all technical activities for the HTC Value Stream. You will lead the engineering effort for new business proposal efforts, non-recurring engineering (NRE) development, HTC project management, production transition plans, coordinate resources and schedules, ensure technical integrity and engineering execution and ensure accountability for customer and regulatory requirements. You will also manage all related budgets, expenditures costs, hiring, sub-contractors and regularly interface with Customers, Collins Value Stream Leadership (VSL) and Collins Advanced Structures Engineering Leadership.

The successful HTC Associate Director requires strong. The VSE Associate Director position includes the responsibility to plan, organize, and direct department operations and personnel while meeting department safety, quality, on-time delivery, export, financial, and continuous improvement goals. The VSE Associate Director drives group accountability with high expectations for OTD and technical achievement while supporting a strong, positive team culture.

What You Will Do

  • Key reporting function to Carbon Engineering, HTC VSL and Landings Systems Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

  • Develop cross-functional relationships across multiple RTX business sites, including Pueblo, CO; Santa Fe Springs, CA; Tucson, AZ; Troy, Ohio; and the corporate RTX R&D Centers in CT

  • Protect the department culture and to support the career growth objectives of the department engineers and technicians while meeting all business needs.

  • Plan, organize, direct and control all departmental operations and personnel while meeting EH&S, Budget, Quality, On-time Delivery, Global Trade and Continuous Improvement (CI) expectations.

  • Perform project management responsibilities that include safety, budget, costs, schedules, risk management, quality and deliverables.

  • Key engineering interface with Raytheon Missiles Division and Government customers.

  • Knowledgeable of military proposals, contracts, pertinent product designs and customer-interface needs.

  • Ultimately accountable for technical integrity of all HTC programs, including direct and indirect reporting structures across the AMF sites and functions.

  • Ensure customer satisfaction through frequent interaction to address proposals, development, certification, production, field, test or other status and concerns.

  • Ensure compliance of all technical requirements for customers and RTX.

  • Partner closely with HTC VSL and support all business development related activity including customer interactions, proposal solicitations, creation, and submittals.

  • Deal with high levels of complex, technical ambiguity associated with structural applications and the fortitude to forge new paths of fundamental understanding.

  • Develop and maintain technology roadmaps to support development, qual and production needs, including TRL and MRL progressions.

  • Department compliance for all required RTX training and policies.

  • Communicate and make presentations to internal and external senior level leadership

  • Travel up to 20% domestically when circumstances permit

  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum of 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and typically a minimum of 10 years of experience

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

  • Experience with carbon-carbon, CMC (Ceramic Matrix Composites) or composite engineering in a design and manufacturing environment.

  • Five or more years’ experience of Engineering supervision or commensurate lead project management experience on major projects.

  • Experience within regulated industries (ex.: FAA, FDA) or other highly specified/controlled products/industries.

  • Experience with Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with ACE®, CORE®, Six-Sigma, Lean or similar certifications.

  • PMP certified

  • Previous multi-site responsibilities.

  • TRL/MRL (Technology Readiness Level/Manufacturing Readiness Level) experience

  • Military product development experience.

  • Proposal and/or white paper experience.

  • Mechanical/thermal design experience.

  • MS Engineering degree and/or MBA

The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
