The Hasan School of Business (HSB) at Colorado State University - Pueblo is the premier provider of business education in the southern Colorado region, providing high-quality undergraduate and graduate education for a varying student population, preparing students to become leaders in business, government, and industry. The HSB is AACSB-accredited and consists of 24 full-time faculty and approximately 15 adjunct faculty serving over 500 undergraduate and 50 graduate students. It offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration (BSBA) with several majors and minors in various business disciplines including Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing; a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems (CIS); and a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Management and Leadership. The school also offers a 3+2 program in which students can complete their Bachelor’s degree and MBA in 5 years.

Description of Job

The position is a nine-month tenure-track appointment as an Assistant Professor of Finance in the Area of Accounting/Economics/Finance within the Hasan School of Business. The position consists of primarily teaching a variety of courses in the Finance discipline with the expectation that, as part of a predominantly teaching institution, teaching introductory courses in other business disciplines may be occasionally requested based on semester needs. The position also involves engaging in scholarly activities in Finance topical areas, and providing service to the university, college, department, and profession.

Teaching assignments specific to Finance will be based on department needs but may encompass subject areas such as but not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Principles of finance

  • Managerial finance

  • Entrepreneurial finance

  • Investment analysis

  • International finance

  • Financial management (graduate)

Further, teaching assignments may be face-to-face (F2F), hybrid, or online and may occur during either the day or evening.

Primary Duties

Teach an estimated 4/4 load of undergraduate and graduate courses in accordance with program needs, with the option of course reduction at the approval of the HSB Dean. Most HSB faculty teach a 3/3 load. Prepares and presents course materials; administers appropriate tests; evaluates student outcomes; selects texts; prepares, administers and grades assignments; and assigns final grades. Participates in proposing curriculum changes and program modifications. Introduces and supports student success initiatives at the department, college, and university level.

Hold at least 5 weekly office hours each semester.

Actively participate in program assessment and improvement.

Engages in appropriate scholarly activities to maintain currency in disciplinary fields. Maintains a research program that generates scholarly outputs including refereed journal publications, conference presentations, and other scholarly works.

Participates in service activities that include shared governance, professional service, and community service.

Ancillary Duties

Participate in student recruitment, informal advising of students, and outreach to alumni and the community at large

$110,000-135,000

Minimum Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D.) in Finance, or very closely related discipline with significant coursework (at least 18 graduate credit hours) in Finance. ABD with a dissertation defense date and completion of all degree requirements prior to the start date will be considered.

  • Ability and willingness to teach a variety of courses in Finance at the undergraduate and graduate levels

  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to motivate, educate, and mentor students from a wide range of cultural and educational backgrounds similar to that of students at Colorado State University Pueblo

  • Ability and willingness to provide service to the university, college, and department

  • Experience teaching at least one of the listed Finance courses

  • Experience conducting scholarly research related to finance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP)

  • Ability and willingness to teach introductory courses in other business disciplines as requested

  • Experience teaching Finance courses beyond student teaching in more than one of the listed course areas with evidence of high-quality teaching in those areas

  • Business industry experience in a finance capacity
