What you'll do in this position:

  • Plan and lead safe, inclusive, and effective group fitness classes tailored to varying fitness levels and abilities.
  • Maintain regular attendance at scheduled classes, ensuring prompt start and end times.
  • Prepare equipment, choreography, and music as appropriate for each class in alignment with university policies.
  • Provide high-quality workouts, demonstrating proper form, technique, and modifications to ensure safety and maximize results.
  • Create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where participants feel supported, motivated, and part of the BYU community.
  • Adhere to safety standards and university policies, including verifying student wellness wristbands, to maintain a safe and secure environment for all participants.

     

What qualifies you for this role:

 

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Proven experience in leading group fitness classes such as Spin, Zumba, HIIT, Yoga, Pilates, strength training, or other related fitness disciplines.
  • Current certification in group fitness instruction from a recognized organization (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM) or a specific fitness discipline (e.g., yoga, spin, Zumba, Pilates).

     

Preferred

  • Ability to clearly instruct, demonstrate, and motivate participants while fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Strong commitment to promoting physical, mental, and spiritual wellness, and aligning with BYU's values and mission.
  • Strong organizational skills with a commitment to maintaining punctuality and consistency in class schedules.
  • Additional certifications in CPR/AED or First Aid are preferred.
