About the Opportunity:

Brown University’s School of Professional Studies (https://professional.brown.edu) (SPS) brings a Brown education to new audiences of learners: those focused on development of skills and a breadth of knowledge necessary for professional success and leadership. We leverage Brown’s intellectual centers of excellence, rigorous teaching, and developmental approach to learning in a range of programs, including serving students outside of traditional degree programs. We partner with Brown departments, centers, institutes, and schools to develop degree and non-degree programs, and to support the recruitment, retention, and placement success of master’s students, including traditional, non-traditional, and professional students.

Responsibilities:

The Director for Academic Innovation is responsible for identifying and launching new online Master’s programs to reach diverse audiences of learners at the early, mid and professional stages of their career around the world. The Director will report to the Dean of the School of Professional Studies and VP for Academic Innovation, and will lead a team of staff within the Academic Innovation unit to launch and manage these programs. The Director will also work closely with the Directors of Marketing, Enrollment and Recruitment and their respective teams to manage new program development. Externally, the Director will be a key partner with the Sheridan Center, the Registrar’s Office, and academic departments. This role is critical to the success of the University’s plans to expand the visibility and impact of Brown through an expansion of Master’s programs.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree required

  • 5-7 years of experience in higher education

  • 3+ years of managerial experience

Job Competencies

  • Strong understanding of online education, market analysis, academic policies, procedures and culture, particularly in graduate education

  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, presentation, and communication skills

  • Must be able to coordinate and supervise staff

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in graduate education

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment
