The Princeton University Art Museum is seeking a Store Marketing Assistant to support the Manager of Wholesale and Retail Operations in effectively and consistently creating and managing products that reflect the museum's collections, exhibitions, and educational programs. The Store Marketing Assistant will play a vital role in developing a unique and diverse range of products that align with the Art Museum's mission and fill a critical space in the merchandise planning for the Museum Stores. The Store Marketing Assistant will support the Product Development process from concept to execution, that may include product design, licensing, pricing, production, and inventory management and may involve collaborating with various departments within the museum, external vendors and regional artisans. A successful candidate will have solid retail experience and proficiency using Photoshop or similar applications, knowledge of art, art history and culture, and would thrive in a creative learning, mission driven environment. Attention to detail and the ability to adapt and prioritize deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

This is an 60% time, benefits eligible, 2-year term position with the possibility of extension.

Committed to advancing the University’s teaching and research missions, the Museum also serves as a hub for the humanities at Princeton for visitors worldwide. The Museum currently presents exhibitions in its two downtown venues (Art on Hulfish and Art@Bainbridge) and is touring collections exhibitions nationally and internationally. When the Museum opens its dramatically reconceived building, scheduled for 2025, it will initiate a new exhibitions program with annual exhibitions on-site and on tour.

Responsibilities
  • * Develop unique and innovative product offerings that transcend traditional reproductions yet allow the Store to market offerings that reflect the richness and diversity of the Museum's collections by:
  • * Conducting in-depth research across various curatorial areas to identify distinctive and underrepresented pieces suitable for product development.
  • * Focusing on key merchandising themes of "Arts, Architecture, and Design," "Community and Inclusivity," "Sustainability," and "Princeton."
  • * Collaborating with the Museum's curatorial team to understand exhibition schedules and themes to develop product lines that complement these initiatives.
  • * Working with external vendors, artists, and designers to source or create exclusive merchandise that reflects the museum's brand and values.
  • * Expanding potential artist/vendor sources by focusing on regional and diverse vendors who are committed to excellence in design and production.
  • * Managing license and copyright matters related to proposed merchandise using a detailed worksheet in collaboration with the Museum's Art Information Department, ensuring that the Museum Store's product offerings are legally compliant and aligned with the institution's broader narrative and mission.
  • * Collaborating with the Editorial Department for descriptions, captions, and layout of text.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • * Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Retail Management, or a related field.
  • * Previous experience in retail or product development, preferably in a museum or cultural institution.
  • * Experience with inventory management and merchandising.
  • * Ability to research and identify market trends, consumer preferences, and new product opportunities.
  • * Experience in developing, sourcing, and managing unique product lines, especially museum-related merchandise.
  • * Strong creativity and innovation skills to develop unique and attractive product offerings.
  • * Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.

Preferred Requirements:

  • * Knowledge of marketing principles specific to retail environments.
  • * Familiarity with digital marketing, including social media, email marketing, and e-commerce platforms.
  • * Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • * Strong analytical skills to assess product performance, sales data, and customer feedback.
  • * Creative and innovative mindset with a keen eye for detail and design.
  • * Passion for art, culture, and museum work.
  • * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • * Experience with inventory management software.
