Area of Specialty: Instructional Design/Assessment Content Development

Position Summary

The Assessment Specialist II plans, develops, and evaluates items, tests, and learning products and activities that are closely aligned to relevant standards. This role applies strong content knowledge to add significant value to test content and learning activity development and is knowledgeable about current standards and trends in their field of specialty. The Assessment Specialist II must work independently and must also be a strong team player, working with internal groups as well as outside experts. Additionally, the role regularly provides guidance and training to less experienced assessment specialists.

Basic functions and responsibilities

  • Serve as a lead on designing learning activities for adult learners

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert in area of specialty

  • Utilize multimedia tools to develop compelling learning activities and course content

  • Create test content, gather and resolve feedback from multiple sources on items, and evaluate item acceptability after testing

  • Develop and evaluate AI-generated assessment and learning content in collaboration with AI engineers and developers and directly through AI tools

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and manage external content contributors in the development of test and learning materials; develop training materials and plan and lead training meetings

  • Facilitate content development activities in areas outside of core content expertise

  • Design and develop new and innovative products and services, working with project teams and clients

  • Assemble test forms according to defined specifications

  • Respond to customer inquiries, review responses to customer inquiries to ensure accuracy and appropriate responses

  • Respond to client feedback to develop content that meets specific client expectations

  • Create and implement content development plans; work on special development projects as appropriate

  • Adhere to ethical standards and comply with the laws and regulations applicable to your job function

Experience and Skills

EDUCATION

Master’s Degree in field of specialty or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

EXPERIENCE

  • This position requires a minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible professional experience, which may include designing learning content, teaching at the middle school, high school, and/or college level; writing; editing; and/or developing assessments.

  • Experience designing and developing learning content for adults is required.

  • Classroom experience and familiarity with current subject-area standards are desirable.

  • This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to apply rules of grammar, etc., to the development of materials.

  • This position requires well-developed organizational skills, strong technical skills, and a willingness/adeptness with regards to learning new technology.
