Overview The Department of Technology, Design, and Technical Education (TDTE) at Utah State University is searching for a candidate to fill a faculty position as a Lecturer or Professional Practice Assistant Professor in the Engineering, Drafting, and Design Technology for the career pathway for students in Southeastern Utah. This hire will specifically support the Engineering Drafting and Design and Additive Manufacturing certificates, primarily serving southeastern Utah and supporting the Utah State University Statewide system with stackable associate degree offerings throughout the USU Statewide campus system

This position is a full-time, nine-month (academic-year) term appointment with additional summer months available to advance our programmatic efforts. The instructor teaching will focus on mechanical drafting and innovative additive manufacturing processes. This position involves 90% teaching and advising duties and 10% service and professional engagement.

Estimated start date is January 1, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a new generation manufacturing curriculum that systematically advances from Technical Education Certificates, Associate of Science, and Associate of Applied Sciences (AAS) to Bachelor of Science (BS) within a statewide campus system
  • Collaborate with department staff and faculty to promote a manufacturing program that first responds and then guides the additive manufacturing process for industry growth and diversification
  • Support and collaborate with the machine tool technology curriculum and teaching processes that incorporate manual and automated machining processes for workforce skill development
  • Improve and implement an engineering drafting and design program that focuses on mechanical and product development from design to production, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies
  • Advance strategies to assess and resolve manufacturing barriers in Utah and the nation using industry partners in shared teaching/development workspace
  • Recognize and respond to shifting economic policies and societal attitudes toward manufacturing

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • Lecturer Qualifications:
  • A.S., A.S. or B.S. degree, or higher, in manufacturing technology-based curriculum or a closely related field from an accredited school. At least three years of industry or related experience where work is performed to a recognized industry standard practice. Up to two years of post-secondary education in a related field may be substituted for work experience.
  • Teaching-focused candidate who understands and is committed to an instructional role and mission of the Technology, Design, and Technical Education department.
