We have 31 courts across the state where we process over 130,000 cases each year in support of Maines almost 1.4 million residents.
The Job:
The State of Maine Judicial Branch is seeking certified law enforcement officers and other highly qualified individuals who seek to become certified law enforcement officers, from diverse backgrounds for an exciting and challenging career as a Deputy Judicial Marshal. This position is a certified law enforcement position tasked with providing a safe and secure experience for judges, court staff, court participants, and members of the public while enjoying a full-time work schedule that allows for work life balance.

Salary Range:
Grade 11, \$23.19 - \$30.19 per hour. Starting pay is \$23.19 - \$24.31 per hour.

Responsibilities:
- Serves as Judicial Marshal for the court, undertaking security arrangements for each court day and session as needed. During court proceedings, remains strategically stationed, alert, and responsive to any security risk.
- Enforces the laws of the State of Maine within the courthouse, effect arrests when necessary, monitor surveillance equipment, and utilize x-ray equipment at entry screening areas.
- Observes all persons entering the courtroom, their movement, and their activities.
- Assists within the courtroom with the orderly flow of paperwork between the judge/justice, clerks office, defendants, and other participants. Assists with the movement of evidence as requested.
- Patrols and maintains a presence in public areas of court facilities as assigned.
- Announces the opening, recess, and closing of each court session.
- Directs persons to building locations and provides information on court schedules and proceedings as authorized.
- Ensures that all parties are present and ready prior to the entrance of the presiding judge/justice into the cou troom.
- Maintain mandatory annual law enforcement training as directed by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, CPR/First Aid, annual firearms qualifications, and all other requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring the safety and security of each courthouse and responds to emergencies, as necessary.
