Robert Half Accounts Payable Clerk in Portsmouth, Virginia

Description We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for an Accounts Payable Clerk in Portsmouth, Virginia. This role is within the government industry where you will be pivotal in managing a range of accounting duties, primarily focusing on the processing of accounts payable.

Responsibilities include:

• Efficiently entering invoices to the correct accounts and issuing checks for payments.

• Conducting regular postings of outgoing payments to the journal.

• Reconciling accounts to bank statements to ensure accuracy.

• Assisting with accounts receivables as and when required.

• Communicating with vendors to confirm payments and address any payment-related queries.

• Utilizing Emphasis software and Microsoft Excel for various accounting processes.

• Ensuring high attention to detail while processing high volumes of data.

• Learning new processes and software quickly to maintain workflow efficiency.

• Maintaining accurate records of customer credit applications.

• Monitoring customer accounts and taking appropriate action when necessary. Requirements • Minimum of three years of experience in an Accounts Payable role within the government sector.

• Proficient in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) procedures.

• Experience in performing Bank Reconciliations and Account Reconciliation.

• Proficient in using Microsoft Excel for accounting purposes.

• Ability to work efficiently in a team and independently.

• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in work.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think analytically.

• Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure.

• Knowledge of government regulations related to accounting.

• Proven track record of maintaining precise financial records.

• Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
