Actalent Controls Engineer in Portland, Michigan

Job Title: Controls EngineerJob Description

This position is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of a broad range of electrical systems and equipment in the plant, including plant electrical infrastructure, PLC and HMI systems, and robotic equipment. The job consists of controls and electrical engineering duties. The engineer will partner with the maintenance team to complete projects and corrective actions. They will develop solutions to issues that arise on the manufacturing floor. The engineer will also be expected to program and design Allen-Bradley PLCs in Pro Logix 5000 when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement modifications to electrical systems of current machines or new equipment to improve safety and manufacturing processes.

  • Maintain plant power distribution system.

  • Oversee the storage of new electrical prints and programmable processor programs.

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of systems for generating and updating electrical prints.

  • Track and reduce electrical cost and consumption.

  • Forecast and balance electrical loads.

  • Develop and maintain a contingency plan in the event of an electrical supply catastrophe.

  • Coordinate electrical contractor services.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot system problems as required.

  • Supervise technical help involved in the development and installation of projects.

Essential Skills

  • 3-5 years of experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with Robotics and Robotics Programming (Fanuc preferred).

  • Experience with Safety Controls.

  • Experience with electrical and facilities maintenance.

  • Experience with PLC programming, HMI programming, electrical systems, and robotics.

  • Proficiency in PLC design and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, and CAD.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Facilities maintenance experience.

  • Experience wearing multiple hats and working cross-functionally with many departments (quality, maintenance, engineering).

Work Environment

The employee in this position will get exposure to the automotive and large equipment (construction/agriculture) industry. The consultant will receive 2 weeks of PTO and 6 paid holidays. Additionally, access to Udemy will be provided after 6 months to expand on their skillset. The company has 280 employees, including 20 engineers. Typical working hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, but there is flexibility with start times (6 AM or 7 AM, etc.). No overtime is typically required.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.86 - $45.67
