JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Manufacturing Engineer, MTL Assembly

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Technical Manager, MTL Assembly

SUMMARY

This is a commodity specific technical position (A/C Registers, IP Trim, Consoles, Cup Holder / Ash Cup / Bin / Other Moving Components) responsible for leading set based concurrent engineering and building a knowledge database in the product development process. This position will work closely with program management, the corresponding technical manager, and plant launch management. They will be responsible for mentoring manufacturing and assisting plant launch management.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Under general supervision is responsible for the following major tasks:

Maintain broad knowledge of product design, manufacture and assembly techniques. Develop and implement machine standards. Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods for maximum efficiency. Perform manufacturing time studies in conjunction with Manufacturing Engineering to develop and determine best practices. Communicate with machine vendors to understand and determine specifications. Purchase and arrange production equipment and parts based on product specifications. Estimate resource requirements and workload assignments for manufacturing processes. Coordinate with design, engineering, sales and operations teams to develop manufacturing plans for new products to achieve corporate cost and quality objectives. Develop budgets for production assembly equipment. Participate in a product development team from inception to manufacturing launch. Coordinating equipment / manufacturing reviews with cross functional team with defined expectations and secure buy-off from internal & external customers on assembly machines and secondary processes. Evaluate new processing methods technology for application purposes against new business opportunities. Lead the creation of Standardized Work, Machine Quote Specification Sheets, Element Cycle Time Work Sheets, Capacity Analysis, Work Balance Tables, and Cell Layouts for all assigned programs. Participate in Standardized Work and Practical Problem Solving training activities. Coordinate with clear communication between product development engineering and operations manufacturing engineering. Ensure best practices and lessons learned are implemented into new product designs. Review manufacturing equipment quotes to ensure they meet manufacturing best practices. Provide technical leadership, training, and support to manufacturing engineering teams. Attend White Board, Design Input, Design Output, Launch Readiness Review, and Launch Effective Review and all program related meetings. Complete all post-hire training. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree in engineering and 1 to 3 years of experience in the areas of automation, injection molding processes, assembly equipment, decoration/finishing, and manufacturing techniques or High School Diploma and 5 years of experience in the areas of automation, injection molding processes, assembly equipment, decoration/fi
