Cleveland Clinic's Critical Care Transport (CCT) team is recognized as a world leader in transporting critical patients anywhere around the globe. The CCT team is an expert team of critical care providers available 24/7 to transport critically ill and injured patients of all ages. By initiating tertiary care during transfer, outcomes are often improved for many critically ill patients.

A caregiver in this PRN position works days/evenings/nights/weekends between 12:00am - 11:30pm. PRN MUST COMMIT TO WORKING 48 HOURS EVERY 6 WEEKS.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform all basic and life support skills as prescribed by the State of Florida and the Medical Director.

  • Assume responsibility and primary accountability for the safe operation of the designated emergency response vehicle.

  • Assist in patient care and transport as directed.

  • Work collaboratively with members of the team to provide essential emergency response services.

  • Respond safely and without delay to calls for emergency assistance.

  • Report on time to scheduled obligations.

  • Operate emergency vehicles safely and in accordance with department policy and procedures.

  • Perform daily vehicle safety and readiness checks, reporting any actual and potential hazards.

  • Provide care and communication suitable for appropriate age-specific care. Neonatal (0 - 28 days); Pediatric (29 days - 12 years); Adolescent (13 - 18 years); Adult (19 - 74 years); Geriatric (75+ years).

  • Conduct point-of-care laboratory testing as part of patient care and participate in requisite point-of-care testing maintenance procedures to comply with regulatory standards of the College of American Pathologists or other bodies as applicable.

  • Report pertinent observations regarding patients to the appropriate person.

  • Assist other emergency response agencies in securing patients for treatment/transport as needed.

  • Function as an advocate for the patient and their family by supplying and interpreting information, supporting decisions and facilitating communication.

  • Maintain the specific confidentiality issues of the patient.

  • Be responsible for completing all required departmental continuing education annually.

  • Perform daily and monthly checks to ensure continuous readiness for state inspection.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate of an accredited basic EMT program.

  • Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the State of Florida.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification.

  • Operation of emergency vehicles (EVOC) with 8 hours of driving and 8 hours of lecture time.

  • Current valid driver's license (VDL) and insurable through Cleveland Clinic's liability center.

  • EVOC certificate.

  • Ability to use related clinical equipment, communications equipment and the electronic patient care report system.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Two years of experience driving emergency vehicles as an EMT.

Physical Requirements:

  • The physical requirements of this position are; the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.

  • The employee frequently is required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move various weights up to and exceeding 25 pounds, pursuant to safely ambulating patients as needed.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
