Position Purpose:
Responsible for performing a variety of moderately routine hazardous and non-hazardous waste tasks in the movement of solids to liquids. Tasks to include all types of manual labor in cleaning and decontamination operations, vacuum projects and handling, packing, unloading, and loading containers of related materials for processing at site or transportation to appropriate disposal facilities.
Primary Duties /Responsibilities:
Unloads various sizes of drums and/or containers off of or on to trailers for appropriate disposal at site or transportation to other sites.
Construct boxes and/or fiber containers and stacks, numbers, and loads containers on skids in processing area for eventual utilization.
Use a variety of tools such as impact wrenches, shovels, jackhammers, etc. to attain required weight for proper disposal of hazardous waste.
Transport hazardous waste materials from storage facilities to incinerator docks or processing areas as directed.
Decontaminate and dispose of drums and/or containers according to RCRA and disposal guidelines.
Complete all necessary paperwork for processing hazardous waste to include transportation of materials to and from various locations.
On a daily basis, indicate materials utilized in the disposal of waste and insure that equipment is maintained.
May assist in the training of entry-level material handlers.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background:
High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
An Associate of Arts degree from an accredited community college with emphasis in environmental skills highly preferred.
Prior work experience of 2 to 3 years in the hazardous waste industry in a related position with proficiency in handling forklift, backhoe, and a variety of tools highly preferred.
