McLaren Health Care Supervisor Patient Care Services - McLaren Careers in Pontiac, Michigan

Position Summary:

Guides and mentors staff in daily activities of decision making for patient care.

Serves as a resource to staff during the scheduled shift. Assumes daily functioning of the Patient Care Service areas in accordance with established hospital and nursing policies, procedures and standards.

Plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates staffing and patient care. Initiates and/or participates in corrective action and evaluation processes and personal development plans.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1.

Operations

a.

Ensure quality and efficiency in the assigned Patient Care Service units, on a shift to shift basis.

b.

The Supervisor will monitor and modify patient flow within the departments to maximize efficiency, maintain quality, and promote patient satisfaction.

c.

The Supervisor will adjust and allocate nursing assignments to meet the needs of the department.

d.

The Supervisor will assure the reporting, handling, and documentation of all patient incidents, variances in patient care, issues related to substandard quality of care, safety issues, and actual or potential litigation or media situations, occurring during their shift.

e.

The Supervisor will keep management and staff informed of work related matters on a regular basis.

2.

Clinical

a.

The Supervisor will function as a role model and mentor to all staff.

b.

The Supervisor may assist with all aspects of patient care on an as-needed basis.

c.

The Supervisor will be knowledgeable with all equipment, supplies, forms and procedures utilized on the nursing units. (or unit specific, as applicable)

3.

Customer Service

a.

The Supervisor will be constantly aware of who our customers are-patients, patient families, physicians and anyone requiring the services of McLaren Macomb.

b.

The Supervisor will ensure quality customer service.

c.

The Supervisor is empowered and encouraged to address and rectify customer concerns at the time of occurrence in a manner that is acceptable to the customer and the hospital.

d.

The Supervisor will be knowledgeable with community resources and referral agencies for customers in need of shelter, food, medications, and follow-up medical care.

(May be unit specific, as appropriate).

e.

The Supervisor will be pro-active in meeting the needs of the patients, families, physicians and staff.

4.

Performs other related job duties as requested.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of a Nursing program.

  • Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license

  • BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date

  • One year of prior work experience in Nursing

Preferred:

  • Bachelors degree in Science in Nursing

  • Three years of prior work experience in Nursing or Charge Nurse work experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to interact (both verbal and written) with patients, families, health team members and physician staff -required

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities such as team building, collaboration and confidentiality -required

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving attributes -required

  • Demonstrated behaviors consistent with reliability and accountability –required
