Indian Health Service Supervisory Dentist (Chief) in Polacca, Arizona

Summary This Chief Dentist position is located at the Hopi Health Care Center (HHCC) in Polacca, AZ. This position is responsible for the delivery of dental services and adequate access to care. The Chief Dentist provides supervisory functions and oversight for preventive, rehabilitative, and community services for the local Native American population. This position reports to the Clinical Director onsite. Responsibilities The first Cut-off date for receipt/referral of applications to be considered for available vacant positions will be 10 days after the JOA open date. Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Administrative (40%) The incumbent serves as Chief, Service Unit Dental Program Complex. The program is a clinic based program with 14 dental operatories. Chief is responsible for the delivery of basic services and adequate access to care, performance improvement, assurance that the program budget operates within appropriate guidelines and regulations and that funds are judiciously used, management of contract dollars to support and supplement direct program activities, and program direction towards the goals and objectives established at higher levels of the Indian Health Service and US Public Health Service. Provides clinical consultation to all dentists and serves on hospital committees. Supervises professional staff consisting of the Deputy Chief, five (5) staff dental officers, two Dental hygienists at HHCC. Serves as second line supervisor and responsible for all staff including twelve six (6) dental Assistants, six (6) expanded functions dental assistants, and one front desk MSA at HHCC. Directs clinic scheduling and patient care management; directs and manages patient referrals and consultation; recommends and/or selects personnel for vacant positions; provides career counseling to the dental staff; approves or disapproves leave; handles grievances or complaints filed by employees or the public; performs disciplinary procedures and/or removals; recognizes and awards for good performance; implements improvement plans or other appropriate measures; and completes performance appraisal forms for professional staff. Works directly with Clinical Director (CD) in matters relating to oral health, regularly reports status of program to CD, conducts and oversees peer review and CMS preparedness/compliance, and interacts with hospital management groups and committees. Clinical Duties (60%) Incumbent serves as a staff dentist responsible for examining, diagnosing and treating commonly encountered dental diseases and dental health problems. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Medical Requirement: Applicant must be able to distinguish shades of color. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0680-13: Completion of a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science. OR Your resume must demonstrate at least 3 years of professional dentistry experience and/or training. This experience is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
